Wie kann man effektiv und lernerorientiert neuen Wortschatz im Unterricht
einführen, üben, vertiefen und verwenden? Die Theorie und Praxis der Wort-
schatzarbeit werden mit Hilfe von zahlreichen Bespielen aus dem Lehrwerk
Schritte international neu 3 (A2.1) erarbeitet.

11:20 – 12:20 Grammatikvermittlung im kommunikativ-integrativen Deutschunterricht
Dieser Workshop vermittelt aktuelle Erkenntnisse aus der Lernpsychologie.
Anhand zahlreicher Beispiele aus Schritte international neu wird gezeigt, wie
grammatikalische Regularitäten der deutschen Sprache auf lernergerechte
und motivierende Weise vermittelt werden können, damit Grammatik im
Deutschunterricht richtig Spaß macht.

13:00 – 14:00 Mit uns – Deutsch lernen!
Mit uns ist die Lehrwerksreihe für fortgeschrittene Jugendliche, die in drei
Bänden von einem Niveau B1 bis zum Sprachniveau C1 führt, wobei die Le-
rnenden systematisch auf die gängigen DSD-Prüfungen vorbereitet werden.
Die altersgemäße Auswahl an lebensnahen Themen wie Freundschaft, Liebe,
Feste, Schule und Ausbildung regt die Jugendlichen zu selbstständigen und
neuen Sichtweisen an. Das Lehrwerk ermöglicht einen handlungs– und kom-
munikationsorientierten Unterricht mit Schwerpunkt auf den produktiven
Fertigkeiten Sprechen und Schreiben.

14:20 – 15:20 Ohne Hören kein Verstehen…
Auch wenn die produktiven Fertigkeiten in Mit uns schwerpunktmäßig
trainiert werden, so kommen die rezeptiven Fertigkeiten, insbesondere das
Hören, nicht zu kurz. Wie Sie mit Ihren Schülern, ausgehend von längeren
Hörtexten, die systematisch auf das Hörverstehen in der DSD – Prüfung vor-
bereiten, das globale, selektive und detaillierte Hören motivierend und effektiv
trainieren können, wollen wir in dieser Einheit erarbeiten.

Writing is often a neglected skill, mostly because of the lack of time allotted to
it.  In this seminar, we will look at basic writing skills and how National Geo-
graphic Learning books support  teachers at all levels in this challenging task,
as well as offering many other possibilities through its unique and captivating
images.

11:20 – 12:20 “The power of curiosity in Young Learners”, Mona Siksek
Empowering young learners means ensuring they have a healthy mindset
about themselves and what they can accomplish in life. A child’s self-image is a
direct result of the kind of reinforcement he or she receives on a daily basis.  In
this seminar we will have a look at how National Geographic Learning books
draw on pupil’s innate curiosity and fascination with nature, the environment
and different cultures to naturally encourage their desire to speak and com-
municate in English.

13:00 – 14:00 “Humour in the language classroom”, Dr. Luke Prodromou
Research into effective language teaching confirms time again the quality of
humour as one central ingredient possessed by outstanding teachers. Humour
is not just about telling jokes although jokes are a part of it. There are many ac-
tivities and techniques of classroom management which raise a smile and open
the way to more enjoyable and effective learning. This workshop demonstrates
a range of techniques for deploying humour in the language classroom to mo-
tivate learners and making lessons memorable. Contexts in which humour can
bring better results are teaching the exam class, grammar and vocabulary.

14:20 – 15:20 “Top Ten Secrets of the Good Language Teacher”, Dr. Luke Prodromou
The session reports on a life-long search for the good language teacher and on
recent research into effective teaching practice. What exactly do expert teach-
ers do? What techniques do they adopt? How do they interact with students?
What kind of relationships do they encourage in the classroom? We end with
practical tips for continued teacher development.

Seit 15 Jahren Repräsentantin des Hueber Verlages, 20 Jahre lange Erfahrung
in der Erwachsenenbildung als Deutschlehrerin, Betreuerin und Prüferin.
Gunda Heck
Gunda Heck arbeitet als Lehrkraft für DaF an Universitäten, Volkshoch-
schulen und für namhafte Unternehmen. Seit 2010 arbeitet sie zudem als
freiberufliche DaF-Fortbildnerin für den Hueber Verlag. Im gleichen Jahr
beginnt auch ihre Tätigkeit als freiberufliche Trainerin der gemeinnützigen
telc GmbH, wo sie Dozenten auf Prüfertätigkeit für die Sprachprüfungen von
Deutsch A1 - C2 vorbereitet.
Mona Siksek
Mona Siksek is a teacher, teacher trainer, and examiner with over 30 years’
working in the ELT industry in one form or another. Having gained a bach-
elor’s degree in Liberal Arts, she went on to gain a master’s degree in TEFL
from St. Michael’s College in Vermont, USA.  Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Mona
is currently based in Greece and her own experiences of learning a second
language, her vast teaching experience, along with her recent experience of
teaching refugees, has provided her with invaluable insight into the difficulties
and aspirations of teachers as well as learners of multicultural backgrounds.
Dr Luke Prodromou  
Luke Prodromou graduated from Bristol University and has an MA in Shake-
speare Studies (Birmingham University) a Diploma in Teaching English
(Leeds University, with distinction) and a Ph.D (Nottingham University).  He
is the author of 20 or so coursebooks; he has worked for the British Coun-
cil (Head of Teacher Training, Thessaloniki), the University of Thessaloniki
(Shakespeare Course), the University of Edinburgh (Drama for TEFL), ES-
ADE Barcelona (Drama and Mixed Ability Classes), Pilgrims, Canterbury
and NILE, Norwich. His  Phd: English as a Lingua Franca: a corpus-based
approach,  was published by Continuum (2010). He is also co-author, with
Lindsay Clandfield, of the award-winning teachers’ handbook:  Dealing with
Difficulties.  Luke is a founder member of Disabled Access FriendlyCampaign
for which he wrote and performed the ‘Wheelchair Sketch’; he now performs
as The English Language Theatre - Luke and friends. He has run courses on
English literature (Shakespeare, Austen, Dickens, the modern novel) for state
school teachers in Madrid.
He teaches part-time on the MA TESOL at City College/Sheffield University,
Thessaloniki.
